@imjoshdean Is this true? You are expecting a turnout around that size, but downsized on what area you have?
Boy, if that isn’t a loaded question... I’m sure it’s entirely unintentional, though. The way you put that would make the presumption that when we contracted the space that we have for this year that we knew that this year would have such demand that we would need to cap our attendance numbers. In reality, there are two important things to consider from when we contracted the space:
1.) BronyCon’s numbers were dropping year over year
2.) We contracted the space before we decided 2019 was going to be our final BronyCon
The space we contracted reflects a lowering attendance in terms of budgeting and size. It also trims a lot of fat. As much as I liked our layout in the past few years (especially since it made my job easier) it was a lot of wasted space, and not from lack of effort on our part. So by leaning down our space, we can benefit from reducing the amount of places around the con that just look...empty. I don’t know about you, but I would hate looking at a space you paid five figures for only to see it just sit there under used.
Something else to keep in mind is that we didn’t just arbitrarily come up with the number 11,000. We ran the numbers in order to see what the maximum capacity of our space would be safely and came to the number that we came to. This means that given our space, we think 11,000 is the top most number we have occupy our slice of the BCC. That number is higher than our highest attendance in event history. Also, we’re not sure if we are going to hit that number or not. We decided after our numbers hit a certain threshold and a certain time has past we were going to let everyone know in order to encourage people to buy their badge before con and avoid disappointment if we had to turn them away at the door. While in reality we have a small ways to go before we hit that number, the last thing any of us want to do is turn someone at the door away.
So while I can’t answer your question outright, hopefully me answering around your question is equally if not more helpful.
