Hello All! I was the Twilight Sparkle from the GGG cast! I would like to share a few thoughts and responses to some of the comments here in regards to the gala.
Yes. We all know that this year's venue was not an ideal one. @Luckypenny already explained that it was very much out of our control this year. I think we should view this as "BronyCon tried something new and it did not work out." The best laid plans etc etc. We worked hard to try and continue to put on a great show for you, the attendees, and we really did try our hardest. And we appreciate everyone who stuck through it with us to the end.
2) The Dress Code
There seems to be some confusion over the idea of what is considered an appropriate dress code for a gala. And there also seemed to be some miscommunication, so allow me to clarify it now. The Grand Galloping Gala has been and will always be a FORMAL EVENT. For a formal event, you would not show up in jeans, shorts, graphic tees, and sneakers. You show up in appropriate footwear, a nice dress (it doesn't have to be ballgowns. It can be a nice dress from Forever21, H&M, etc) or a nice top and skirt. This also goes for the men with a button down shirt, nice slacks or khakis, and dress shoes. We did everything we could to portray this on the website.
When it comes to cosplay, we asked that people please wear cosplays that only fit the dress code. So in turn, a FORMAL cosplay. I saw many wonderful spins on characters turned formal this year and it was great to see the creativity of our attendees. The only ones not limited by this rule were children. We ask that our adult attendees to please treat it as you would a formal event. It it fun to get dressed up fancy for a few hours and just enjoy.
3) Musical Choices
If you have been to our galas in the past, then you will know that we like to throw in some fun and various types of music throughout the evening to keep the energy up and help progress our gala "episodes" with some funny and unique musical sections. We like to keep it formal with the waltz sections so people have some softer music to listen to and mingle with other guests. In the past before we started the stage shows, we had a traditional gala of just classical music for the whole evening, people found themselves bored. We try very hard to make a balance of fun things and traditional music for everyone's enjoyment. It may not be for everyone, but believe me, we do try and take everyone into consideration.
4) Technical Difficulties
With new rooms come new struggles with audio. Yes. We as the cast were just as surprised that we had so many technical difficulties. And that was after two tech rehearsals and mic checks. We honestly don't have a good answer for you all as to why this happened and believe me that it threw us off as much as it did you guys.
5) Grabbing and Harassing of the Performers
Let me be the first to say that there was no grabbing onto the actors during this show. Period. I would like to dispel that rumor now. However, when I came out on stage and asked that you all respect our performers and our stage space, you were all very compliant and listened. The entire cast of the GGG loves all of our attendees and want to see you all have the best night ever. And we love your enthusiasm and support so much. We did ask security to place the chairs in front of the stage so that we could have a little bit of space so that we would not hurt you all during the skits and so we could feel safe as well. We appreciate you all listening to our requests and allowing us to continue to perform.
I want to let you all know that the Grand Galloping Gala has always been one of my favorite events of the weekend. Performing as Twilight is a highlight for me as every year the gala just seems to get more and more crazy with adventures of our pony friends. I want to extend to you our deepest apologies for everyone who couldn't stay because of the heat or couldn't stand the tech issues. We work for months to try and prep for the GGG and we try to bring you new and exciting stories for our characters every year. We hope that with your feedback and comments, we can improve the event for next year and hopefully bring you a gala that many have come to know and love.
